How to Make DIY Sofa Cover
Check your modern sofa to see if the fabric is fastened with staples or clothing nub. If it is stapled, you should use staples to attach the new fabric. If connected by nub, use pin. Be sure to label each piece as you remove it so that you know where it belongs. When measuring the pieces, be sure to add at least 2 inches on all sides to make sure there is enough space to attach the fabric back to the sofa frame. It is always best to have too much fabric than not enough fabric.
Select furniture fabric. Furniture fabrics are much thicker and more durable than regular clothing fabrics. Keep in mind that writing, for example, is routine, because you have to match the pattern to all sections. Use the old pieces of cloth you remove from the couch as a pattern to cut out the new pieces that you use to dress your couch. Fit new fabric pieces to the frame. Work in reverse order from removing the old pieces of cloth. For example, if the last piece of old fabric you removed was the rear of the couch, start fixing the new fabric there first. Remember to reupholster the sofa using staple or nub, depending on what was originally used.
